Marc Macaranas, a graduate choreography track major, worked as my Associate Media Designer for Dance Gala. Practical, hands-on topics covered: advanced editing techniques, After Effects, Watchout, Isadora, System set-up, Greenscreen video, integrating video and dance in live performance.

 

Fall 2017 enrollment: 1 graduate sculpture student

Jacquelyn Dale Whitman, a graduate sculpture major in Art and Art History. We met bi-weekly for the semester. I gave her After Effects tutorials to work through on her own. I helped her with animations for use in her projects, leading up to her final thesis presentation. We discussed how to make her thesis interactive for an audience and how to successfully integrate projection mapping and animation into her thesis work.

Katie Phelan. MFA Choreography. Indy Choreo project. Spring 2021

For this project, Katie was "focused on creating a screendance filmed in one take. Within the rehearsal process, she built choreography for the dancer’s bodies, while simultaneously considering multiple framing options of the camera to capture said movement. These considerations assisted in the development of the camera’s choreography for the work. The process of choreographing the camera's movement influenced, and was influenced by, the body's movement in the frame. This method allowed her to observe the relationships between camera and dancer, while she built a score for the final iteration."

Anika Kildegaard. MFA music, voice. Spring 2020

Due to the pandemic, Anika switched the final focus of this independent study from an in-person thesis concert to creating a video for internet distribution. While learning to shoot and edit video, she was playing with themes of glamour within the world of female vocal performance.

Dic(k)tations of Her - a Film within a Dance, a Dance within a Film

This work is an exploration of the female form as art, decoration, design, and entertainment. The work explores visual stimulation as a tool. A film creates a visual landscape for a live performance that exists within Facebook.
